YouTube’s ad revenue has been steadily growing over the years. In 2020, YouTube generated just shy of $20 billion in ad revenue and this year up until the third quarter, Youtube has generated over $25 billion in ad revenue.
Youtube was founded in February 2005 by Chad Hurley, Steve Chen, and Jawed Karim and Google (Alphabet) acquired YouTube for $1.65 billion in 2006. Since then Youtube platform has been continually evolving to changing technology and user preferences, maintaining its position as the world’s largest video-sharing platform. YouTube’s ad revenue is generated primarily through its ad formats, like In-stream ads, Display ads, Overlay ads and Skippable ads.
