The S&P 500 is one of the US stock market indices that is widely known to reflect the US stock market. S&P 500 contains 505 stocks issued by 500 Large Capital companies in US. It is maintained by S&P Dow Jones Indices. The S&P 500 index is market cap weighted, thus gives a higher weightage to to companies with the largest market capitalizations.
